The Holiday Train

Look what I saw today!

The big guy himself!

The big guy himself!

In case you can’t tell, that’s the annual Chicago Transit Authority Holiday train. It features train cars entirely decked out in lights and decorations, Christmas music and of course, Santa and his elves on an open platform, where they great all the commuters who are fortunate enough to have caught this notorious ride. The first time I ever saw it was the first and only time I’ve been aboard but I encountered it last year and again tonight. It puts a smile on everyone’s faces and definitely helps to ring in the holiday season, so thanks to the CTA for my early Christmas present!

Deck the Halls

It seems the holidays came around again so quickly this year that I barely had any time to get myself into the holiday spirit.  It’s not always easy to get excited about dragging out heavy boxes of decorations and fighting crowds to try to find that perfect gift.  However, I find that decorating tends to help me feel like less of a Scrooge and even if I don’t really feel like it I go through the motions because I know I’ll be glad in the end that I did.

This year proved no different and like always, I’m glad to have the holiday glow set up in my living room.  From my place to yours:

Fa la la la la

This tree looks surprisingly less Charlie Brown-esque than it did when I yanked it up from my storage unit this week.  In fact, I was thinking it was time to retire the entire thing before I spruced it up with lots of ornaments and more lights.  I’m quite satisfied with it now though and I might just keep it up all year.

Oh and on a completely non-Christmas related note:  Happy Hanukkah to all of my Jewish friends and readers!  May your dreidel spin long and your latkes be tasty!
