Close Your Eyes and Think

There’s a lot of talk going on lately about women’s rights and contraception.  Most of this talk is coming from old white men who have no idea what it’s like to have a uterus and have likely not even been around a real vagina in decades.  The latest words this week from an imbecile of a man (who is so vile and loathsome that he shall remain nameless here, as I’m pretty sure most of what he says is just for more attention anyway) make it seem like any woman who is interested in taking birth control must be a slut or a prostitute.  This man is ignorant about the way that women’s health and birth control pills actually work and yet his words were heard by members of Congress and now basically everyone in the country.  I have so much rage and anger towards this idiocy that I don’t really know where to begin but seeing as how this particular “man” is so thick-headed that a drill wouldn’t begin to make it through his skull (though it would be fun to try), trying to rationalize with him would be pointless.  And since I have ovaries I doubt he’d listen to me anyway.

Exactly

A feminist is any person (man or woman) who believes that there should be equality between men and women.  Feminism does not equate to be a militant evil woman hell-bent on destroying anything with a penis.  I’ve been a feminist all of my life and I would bet money that most rational, logical human beings are feminists as well, whether or not they would claim that title.  We are not bad or wrong people because we are standing up for our basic rights.

What’s scary is this whole women’s rights fiasco happening on Capitol Hill is supposed to be something that was settled decades ago.  It’s like we’re going back in time and fighting about things that have already been resolved in an effort to keep us distracted from more the more serious issues of today.  What’s really sad is that religious dogma has worked its way into politics and health care in a country that was founded on the separation of church and state.  Or did the current politicians forget what the founding fathers fought for?  These new guys have their heads so far up their asses that they don’t even seem to realize that shaming women for having sex will ultimately lead to a world where they do not get laid.  What do you think will happen then?  After they realize that they’re essentially cockblocking themselves, they’ll probably turn on women again and state that we’re not “doing our duty” by relieving their needs.  Closing our eyes and hoping for the best will lead to a social regression where we also close our eyes and think of England.  Although if I was expected to have sex with some of the men who are spouting off in Congress today, I’d close my eyes and think of something else too.

This is just the Catholic Church stirring crap up. States with this mandate currently allow churches to have an exception to this, and rightfully so. If the government forced an actual church to have to include contraception in its health care plans it would be in clear violation of the separation of church and state as the government would be imposing their will on a religious institution. Nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to get into that fight. However, the Catholic Church is wanting this exception to be expanded to their non-church businesses and other “non-profit” agencies. This is just an example as to why I cannot stand the Catholic Church and other so called “mega churches” out there. Their leaders make millions and constantly cause trouble all in the name of their own advancement up the ranks. Its debatable whether or not Jesus was some divine son of god, but its a historical fact that he existed, was humble, was not rich, and did not insert himself into politics unless he absolutely had to (ie- when the crowd caught the woman cheating and wanted to stone her to death and Jesus stopped it- that actually happened). Sorry, got off topic there, but this makes me mad too.
